HOW TO FURNISH A NARROW CORRIDOR

How to decorate a narrow hallway

5 design rules to make a small hallway look more spacious

You have probably spent hours trying out different ideas for your hallway, rearranging furniture, choosing paint colors, and reflecting on carpet styles in a frantic attempt to make your small hallway more spacious, bright, and airy. Don't panic: with some tricks of the trade, you can improve its appearance and functions.

1. Be careful in choosing furniture for the hallway

An excellent way to make the most of a smaller entrance is to use multifunctional furniture, such as an entrance bench that can be used as a container, console tables with drawers, and folding chairs that can be stored when not in use.

Another important suggestion is to position large furniture against the walls so that the open space in the center is not interrupted. Scale the furniture to fit the room's dimensions and do not block pedestrian paths.

2. Insert light points to illuminate the area

Light will instantly illuminate a narrow hallway, so first of all, allow any natural light to filter inside through appropriate windows. If natural light is nonexistent, look for ideas for hallway lighting and ask an electrician to install chandeliers, wall sconces, or table lamps to bring the right amount of lighting. Dark corners can make a small and narrow entrance, so place a floor or table lamp in a bare corner to visually expand the area, while recessed ceiling lights can illuminate an entire room without affecting space.

3. Hang a wall mirror

It is not surprising that mirrors can make an entrance look more spacious. So hang a large mirror on a wall facing a window or very close, so as to reflect the light coming from outside, visually expanding the hallway spaces. Mirrors reflect both natural and artificial light, making a room brighter both during the day and at night. This is because they bounce light deep into the room, making it appear larger.

4. Use a monochromatic color palette

Surprising, fresh, and confident, gray and white are always a winning combination when it comes to narrow hallways. Create a perfect balance between these two neutral colors, using equal amounts of both.

It will give a bright look during the day. Also introduce decorative motifs using geometric or floral wallpaper, and keep the rest of your furniture and accessories simple and sober, for a contemporary aesthetic.

5. Get help from a rug to play with proportions

If you have a narrow and short hallway, using small tricks you can make this space look longer and wider. An idea could be to insert a modern rug or a runner, capable of becoming the protagonist of the space, perhaps in bright colors or with particular workings.
